CHARITY BEAR
and
RELATED ITEMS
Each year I make a bear for charity, quite often specific to what the charity
represents.  Terry is in Lions Clubs International (similar to Rotary) and they
raise money for various local (as well as emergency international) charities.

Below are a couple of the recent "charity" bears showing which charity they
were for and how much they raised.    Below them is this year's bear.

I also make large and small shopping  bags from "Deans" centenary oilcloth
material, together with pencil case and purse.  Photos of these, together with
prices, are below this year's charity bear.   I've been doing these now for over
4 years and the profit raised has gone to the Moon Bears - so far donations
have totalled over £400 together with over £200 raised on a charity bear 5
years ago.
This is "Kilimanjaro Joe".  Based on my
mascot bear "Joe", KJ was 13" high and
had a knitted arran jumper and bobble hat,
suede handmade rucksack and even had
his own passport.  He was taken on a trip
up Mount Kilimanjaro by 3 brothers who
were doing the climb with around 100
others for the VSO to raise money for a
children's hospital in Nairobi.  KJ had his
photo taken lots of times whilst climbing
the mountain (particularly by the Japanese
climbers) and even had his passport
stamped in and out of Nairobi airport.  He
was raffled and raised £230!
This is "Barnum" with his winning
bidders.  The evening was a "Tiara and
Tie" Dinner to launch the "Find a Cure
for Martha" Fund (part of Kidney
Research).  Martha has a very rare
kidney disease with, at the moment, no
known cure.  She is a lovely little girl
(her photo on the "home page" shows
her with her mum at the launch night.)
Barnum was 14" high and made from
silver and purple mohair (Kidney
Research's colours) and sported a
clown's hat of mohair and matching ruff.
He raised £180 and now lives with two
little boys in London.

This is "Bunty".  She was 20" high
and made from luxuriously soft
mohair.  Commissioned by the
Lions Club and donated the Marple
Business Forum's Charity of the
Year event at their Christmas
Cracker in December 2010.  It was
a 'name the bear' competition and
the winner was drawn by Santa
Claus and he presented "Bunty" to
her at the close the event.  The
competition raised over £200 on
the day and the money was
donated to "New Horizons", a
canal boat charity especially for
the disabled.

OOPS  -  Sorry but the 2011 charity bear
got sort of shelved this year - mainly
because I was asked to do two for
charities who raffled/sold them through
their own outlets!

Regarding "Whitby" - well, he went quick!
